The Power of Focus.
In yoga, Drishti or focused gaze, is a means for developing concentrated intention. It relates to the fifth limb of yoga (pratyahara) concerning sense withdrawal, as well as the sixth limb (dharana) relating to concentration.
Amazing things can happen when we truly focus on something. Dreams become reality, big changes happen where stagnation once resided, we become un-stuck and start to enjoy freedom of movement in our bodies and in our lives.
It’s powerful and rich with possibility.
But focus takes a certain amount of…well, focus. You HAVE to keep reigning in your mind, your desire to quit or give up when it get’s difficult or the “I am not good enough” doubts start to creep in. You HAVE to keep moving forward (sometimes with teeny tiny baby steps), dedicating the time and energy to leap into on this amazing “thing” you are focusing on.
For me, that thing I’m focusing on (where my Drishti resides) is yoga. My focus for the next 30 days, is on my daily practice. It’s where I want to build, deepen, expand & grow. There’s some uncharted territory I want to experience in my body and in my life and I know this is the foundation for everything to follow. My dedicated daily practice has morphed. It isn’t an every single day practice anymore and as of lately, it’s been a rather skimpy practice as I’ve allowed the busyness of working, teaching and family over-ride that sweet (and sometimes sweaty) sacred time.
This is an auspicious time of the year. It’s the New Year!
It’s ripe with new beginnings, new ideas and new opportunities. The air is literally bursting with the energy of this shiny new year just waiting to be gathered up and used to create something amazing.
So, you are invited to join me in 30 Days of Yoga.

Disclaimer: I KNOW 30 days straight is difficult. But I’m asking you to give it a try. “Just do it,” as Nike says. But I do realize 30 days straight can be daunting. Go for as many days as you can and take as long as you need. If you only get in 10…it still counts. If you get in 30 days over the course of the next 4 months…it’s still progress. You get to decide what you commit to BUT use the information that is coming – yoga videos, meditations, inspiration. Go join the groups for support, to ask questions, to give what you can of your own journey to help others along the way. Seriously. Every step you take counts. It’s up to you (and me) to make these groups happy places where we can nourish one another and keep each other on task and…FOCUSED. 🙂
I created a little yoga log book/journal where you can log your time, thoughts, feelings, what you liked, what you hated…really anything that comes up.
You can access and download it here: My #30Daysof Yoga Log Book (once the pdf loads, you can save it to your computer and print out).
I have one more little request before we start.
Share this info! Grab a friend or someone you think might be down for 30 days of yoga and into adding some happy transformation into their lives. Email it to them, call them or share it via social media (see those buttons over to the left of this post?). Let’s make it really fun!
You can access all the videos and yoga information here: 30DaysofYoga!
In the meantime, get in the group (Facebook, Pinterest, etc) and share this blog post. I’m so looking forward to practicing with you and hearing about your own 30 day journey and amazing yoga practice.
Questions & Answers…
Is the 30 Days mandatory? This is YOUR practice. You get to decide. I’d go for the full 30 days because you are going to see some big transformation and changes but it’s ultimately up to you.
Do I practice yoga only with you for the 30 days? No. There are way to many wonderfully gifted teachers to limit yourself. So if you go to a yoga class, it counts. If you practice online, it counts. If you practice savasana on your living room floor, it counts! However, if you want to practice with me, you are absolutely welcome. I will be posting videos, podcasts (I got a new microphone!), sequences, in depth pose information and at least one skype session where we can log on at the same time and practice together. I’ve been dying to test out the skype idea! You are also welcome to come practice with me at one of the locales where I teach open to the public classes.
What if I can’t start on the official start date? You don’t have to begin when I begin. You COULD start later and still get access to all the materials scheduled to post…that’s the beauty of participating online.
I’m not on any sort of Social Media like Facebook or Pinterest…can I still participate? Yes! The sessions and information will be posted on this web site under 30 Days of Yoga. You can leave comments to participate or share your thoughts and/or simply email any questions that come up – email@example.com
Can I pin on the Pinterest Board? Absolutely! In fact, it would be most welcome as we are sharing this journey. I call it sharing the yoga love. You’ll need to provide your email address so I can add you to the board and get you an invite. Just email it to me – firstname.lastname@example.org
How do I join the Facebook Group? Log into your Facebook account. Follow this link and request to join (you’ll be approved within a few hours at most…just fyi): https://www.facebook.com/groups/568763226546176/
How can I find the 30 days of yoga info on Twitter, Instagram, Google +? Do a search for #30daysofyoga (be sure to put the hashtag in front of the words with no spaces between the words). All posts will get categorized into that information block. Also, use that hashtag to help keep the info that you post in the proper category so even on Facebook & Pinterest, use the hashtag – #30daysofyoga.
